How can I “improve the shining moments” in my life?
As disciples of Jesus Christ, and members of His church, we are called and instructed by Him “to strengthen the church”. It seems common nowadays that our schedules are overloaded with work, errands, chores, appointments, kids' school and recreational activities. In my personal life, I have found a pattern in the relation of my spiritual life and my temporal affairs. I've found that when I feel overwhelmed in temporal pursuits and daily matters, these are usually the times I'm also slacking my commitment to spiritual matters (i.e. prayers, personal and family scripture study). On the other hand, I've also found that when I am consciously dedicating time, thoughts, and my pursuits first to God and Christ's work in myself, my home, and within His church, a lot of other “regular” occupations of my time and regular tasks get done with much less stress and worry; or even lost their importance and place in my mind. In these times, my mind feels more focused and clear. My pursuits and choices are more clearly directed and organized. My heart is more filled with the Spirit of Christ, which teaches, guides, and enlightens my mind. “In D&C 24:1, Jesus says, “I have lifted thee up out of these afflictions”. In verse eight, He says, “Be patient in thine afflictions...endure them, for lo, I am with thee, even unto the end of thy days”. I believe this comes sometimes in physical form, but especially spiritually and mentally. Christ can give us strength and peace in our hearts and minds to lift us “up out of [our] afflictions”. We can follow His counsel and receive the blessings He has promised.
“Behold, thou wast called...” “Magnify thine office...” “And thou shalt continue in calling upon God in my name...And it shall be given thee in the very moment...”
“Hearken unto the voice of the Lord your God, while I speak unto you, [_(your name__] , my daughter (or son); for verily I say unto you, all who receive my gospel are sons and daughters in my kingdom.
“A revelation I give unto you concerning my will; an if thou art faithful and walk in the paths of virtue before me, I will preserve thy life, and thou shalt receive an inheritance in Zion.”
“And verily, I say unto thee that thou shalt lay aside the things of this world, and seek for the things of a better.”
“Wherefore, lift up thy heart and rejoice, and cleave unto the covenants which thou hast made.
“Continue in the spirit of meekness, and beware of thy pride.”
“Keep my commandments continually, and a crown of righteousness thou shalt receive.”
“And verily, verily, say unto you, that this is my voice unto all.” (See D&C 24-25).
With love and prayers,
