"Stand in holy places" and be not moved!
There's so much going on in the world right now. D&C 45:31 says, "...they shall see an overflowing scourge; for a desolating sickness shall cover the land."
Whether or not Covid is what that's referring to, it sounds like what's going on, right?
All of us have obstacles, challenges, difficulties and sorrows in our lives. So what do we do about it? You can choose.
As verse 32 says, "But my disciples shall stand in holy places; and shall not be moved; but among the wicked, men shall lift up their voices and curse God and die."
I want to take a different view on this statement: "Stand in holy places". In Relief Society today, Sis. Whitaker shared an example of some friends of hers who were each going through hard challenges. Some of them chose to be angry about it all. Yet some chose to be strengthened by it all and still be cheerful, despite the challenges. That's what I love! How can we be cheerful with all that goes on in our lives and in the world?
"STAND IN HOLY PLACES" AND BE NOT MOVED! I think that can mean standing in holy attitudes; attitude of gratitude; attitude of optimism; attitude of patience; attitude of faith.
There are still more hard times to come, yet we can prepare by building up our positive attitudes ; build up a reserve of faith. Just like in the parable of the 10 virgins (see Matt 25:1-12, & D&C 45:56-57), we must have our oil supply ready for the times ahead of us. Our oil is our faith. This faith--and I think that includes a positive attitude--will hold us through all the long hours of the night as we wait for Christ to come.
Build your oil reserve by studying the scriptures; go to the temple or prepare to go; pray always; serve; love God; love one another; LOVE YOURSELF! :)
"Stand in holy places" and be not moved!
With love and prayers,
Jillene Smith
